What did they put in the water this week?

I thought it would be just another week. I came off a three day weekend that was produced artificially when I took Friday for the closing on our property purchased for our future retirement home.

I walked into the main office of the high school in my black double-breasted sport jacket and my new Valentines tie with little red flowers on a black and silver background. I was way cool. There glaring at me were two parents intending to meet with me and half of the school district. They were not successful because someone had to watch the kids. Those expendable to be at this last-minute meeting were the CST Coordinator, The MS VP, me, the guidance counselor and a few teachers that we could steal from classes in a "round-robin" format.

The parents were livid that what they wanted was not done. They claimed that we hadn't lived up to our bargain; to provide a weekly progress report, except one. They lied. They had two in their possession and later admitted another was at home. We found that the daughter kept several of the reports from her parents; she broke down after admitting that. Well, we finally agreed on a new contract and I went on to the next crisis.

There was a cat fight between two girls; they were suspended. The Intercom system didn't work as a result of some tampering by the band teacher to help the physics teacher do a live broadcast by the video club for morning announcements. the intercom ran the bells, so we didn't have them. The bells were off the clock, which, as you can guess didn't work. We made announcements and period changes using the speakers on the classroom telephones.

The day went on with more meetings; one was a observation of a demonstration teaching for a prospective maternity leave replacement teacher. After that we met interview her. Next came the teacher's meeting time. I assigned departments to meet, while my attention had to be given to a problem dividing the time of the new Physics/tech teacher with the duty he had to do and the projects the tech coordinator wanted him to do.

Afterwards came the decision on the teaching position. No break yet! I had to roll over the new year in the database for the school. Supper time, but do I get a break? No. I have to set up the sound system for the middle school parent's meeting. Next came the Board of Ed. meeting where I had to explain the arrangements for the graduations of both schools on one day. Not done yet! Ran up to the middle school PTA meeting to explain the situation to a few dozen hostile parents.

Done! Now I could get a burger and fries to eat on the hour drive home in the dark. That's one day done. Now I have to get some sleep so I can see what the next day holds!!
