The Christian Concert
August 17th we had tickets for the Michael W. Smith/Mercy Me concert at the Mann Ampitheater in Philadelphia. Donna bought them at the end of March. I got confused going there and with the addition of terrible traffic, we arrived an hour late. This prompted Donna to want to turn around several times, but I kept going.
It was fortunate that we did because the experience was transformational. There were people jumping up and waving their arms all the time. They sang and I eventually began to take part too. Michael was so relaxed and personal. We had marvelous seats. Many people were late as well so towards the end of the concert we turned around and saw that there were about 10,000 people there singing and jumping around.
The music was mesmerizing in addition to the lights, smoke, effects and the music. The drum beat punched through my chest as I watched and sang. I couldn't hear myself sing, but later in the show MWS sat at the piano and told everyone to sing and he would just play, which he did. I got all choked up and couldn't sing many times.
It was the best show I had ever seen. I can't imagine how a rock concert could hold a candle to this.
