First Branchburg In-Service
I had a hard time sleeping the night before. I keep replaying events in my mind and how I reacted to them. I keep reviewing these events, but not necessarly analyzing them or planning to correct them. It is almost as if my ancient Catholic roots from my mother make me do penance for my actions or reactions.
With less than desired sleep, I woke to prepare for my first in-service. I had little guidance as to the content of the session, but realized that a vertical articulation with subject areas was important to have. At the same time I needed to have computer training for the teachers as to inputting their progress report grades for mid marking period.
We started with a continental breakfast in the cafeteria and everyone was there. I went around to different tables to meet and greet. The good Doctor was present today, but he stayed in the background. He was packing the office. Once he did that he was ready to relinquish a master key to me. Soon I will be able to have the laptop and the desktop. I haven't decided how much I want to decorate my temporary office. Perhaps if I leave it spare they will keep me here.
I have always hoped to find a job where I would settle in and stay until I wanted to retire but that never happenned. Maybe it is just as well since I am a nomad from my earliest days.
As to the in-service, the staff went where they were to go and the tech training was very helpful. I noticed a lot of questions about the training, which told me they were involved and took it seriously. I had hoped to get some of the training myself but had to content myself with grabbing snatches of information as I walked around.
The important thing I did before this in-service was to consult with my VP and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and confirm that I was on the right track. This gave them a sense of importance as well. Then I wrote out a detailed schedule and emailed it to all the staff and the Administration. This way they know exactly what I am doing and that I am putting the time to good use.
Now that we have the students in the school, I am ready to call it a day.
