Another Illness
Well,
It started out to be a long weekend; one I rarely get since I'm paid
only when I show up these days. That doesn't include the pension, but
then I'm still paying off a car, just finished the college, and still
owe my Mom in law some money for various things. At the same time I'm
trying to get out of the neighborhood, like you did; move to a place
where neighbors think about how well their bushes and lawns look, not
what kind of oath shall I lay on my common law husband while he brings
in another chick to watch the play-offs at 2:00 A. M.
Well,
I'm getting off the subject. It was supposed to be a great weekend.
It started off well enough. I called Donna and said I wanted to have
lunch with her at Wegman's along with her other girlfriend teachers,
which I have known for a long time. This was the first time I got out
for lunch since September and it felt good; the boss eats lunch, see?
Boy, did I feel special. I didn't mind that it was snowing, blowing,
sleeting, etc., I was getting out of the place.
Donna ordered cream of mushroom soup and I had NE clam chowder. We
eat a lot of soup these days; Panera Bread is our favorite spot, so I
didn't think anything of our order. She told me she had cramps after
school. On Fridays, we usually go to one of two places; a local
restaurant called Jakes, that has an entire menu of single malt Scotch
among other things, and McCormick & Schmicks, the best seafood
restaurant I have ever been to. We went to the former because it was
closer and had a burger served with no bun but sauteed spinach with
mushrooms and onions. Great! Donna wasn't feeling too good but she
ate some of it.
Well....
In the middle of the night she got terribly sick and had diarrhea. It
looked as if I was going to have to carry her to the emergency ward
until she remembered an emergency kit she bought months before from
the health food store. In it she had a bottle of medicine for food
poisioning. As soon as she took one dose she began to stabilize. She
thinks it was the cream of mushroom soup. I agree.
And so....
All day Saturday she lay in bed, not taking anything but water or
herbal tea. She slept through the night so I hope she feels better
today.
