Where do I start?

I have served as an Interim Principal for two months now and I feel as though I have been here forever and at the same time feel that I know nothing about the place in which I work.

This school is like other schools, and yet, there is hidden information that you find by accident at times, but mostly when you start snooping. Today I found out why we have so many problems with the laptop labs. This school has two of them; more than I could imagine in my former schools, yet they don't work most of the time.

I found that the batteries need to be changed, but a person has to note which ones need changing. I found that the two labs interfere with each other on the wireless web, so the tech person had to change a frequency to alleviate that. I want an assistant to monitor the labs but they removed the position before I came, so I went to the PTO Principal's Advisory Council for help. They look like they might give me some time. I also looked for the stipend position of Tech coordinator for the school, but it is not filled because anyone interested has been scared off by the prospect of doing a lot of teaching.

The day goes on and on like that. I troubleshoot, investigate, snoop, inquire, and meet with people. Sometimes solutions are found and many times they just uncover more problems. I guess that's job security; there will always be problems.
