New Teachers

Today we had the new teachers in the district show up for an orientation. Fortunately, they are the most qualified people we interviewed and approved. They look eager to tackle the school year. If they still have enthusiasm for teaching in June then I know they are truly dedicated teachers. My job is to keep them supported and supplied with materials and guidance to keep going when it gets tough.

Custodians

Does that mean the person that takes custody of something? Unfortunately, I lost my custodians through a political move sanctioned by the board. They were transfered to other schools. It was an involuntary trade. They didn't want to take custody of my building and I had no choice of them. I heard rumors of who got the best deal. All I know is that I have to break in new people.

Maybe I didn't lose much because it took three reminders and two months for my head custodian to clean the dirt off the cafeteria doors. When I got there as principal I thought the doors were painted black the dirt was so thick. With a scraper, we found that oak was the original material from which the door was made and finally today I saw the color of the wood for the first time. Will my new people take custody of the building? Who knows.

To Begin the Process

It is ironic that I find myself, a person that likes nature, nutition, animals, plants, woodworking, fresh air, exercise, and hard work in a place that is crowded, stressful and away from the things I love. I try to keep my office quiet and stress free with classical music wafting from the speakers, oolong tea from the chinese tea pot and art on the walls but it invades my sanctum.

Needy people clamoring for attention are constantly coming to see me. As the days disappear before the first day back to school the frantic nature of these people becomes more obvious. What is it about people that need other people to complete their happiness? If you can't be happy by yourself and share it with another, why do you trouble other people? You will never be happy even if you suck their blood.
